Assignment 1: Introduction

  • Name: Sarah Croft
  • Age: 19
  • Year: Sophomore
  • Major: Anthropology
  • Minor: Asian Studies

I decided to take this course because, as I progress further in my major, I've been becoming increasingly interested in race and gender issues in Japan. Although I suspect this course will focus on feminism in the West, I think that it will still enrich my perspective on some of these issues.

Five questions:

  1. What is feminism?
  2. What is the history of the feminist movement?
  3. What does feminism mean to my generation?
  4. What are the most important political, social and cultural issues to modern feminist activists?
  5. What is the state of women's rights in other parts of the world?
